toddlerhood

Well, it's official. We've got a toddler, and I can prove it. We've got evidence everywhere. Let's start with the fact that our house constantly looks like it was hit by the "toy" tornado. They're everywhere. I mean everywhere. Mark my word, I will be injured by one or all of these toys as I constantly walk over, step on or trip on something that talks, blinks or rolls. We'll add in the fact that there are accidents and boo-boos daily, and plenty of accidents with PERMANENT evidence to boot. Yesterday the HUD got a hold of my coffee cup and poured it all over the table, two couches, our new area rug and 3 photo albums which were resting on said table. Note to self- coffee MUST be kept on kitchen counter going forward. This morning he opened up a kitchen cabinet and poured soap all over the floor. Thanks for your help with cleaning the house, HUD! He also grabbed a hold of a table lamp and pulled it to the floor, which now has a dented lamp shade. Just as I clean up one disaster he's already moved on to the next one. I think these toddlers should require two adult's supervision. One is simply not enough. We've got to up the ante on the toddler-proofing before something really serious happens. Since the HUD is now napping only once a day (an hour is the standard) that means I'm responsible for being with him for the other 11 hours of the day. There are no breaks, no brief walks into the other room, no showers, no nothing without the HUD coming along for the ride. I'm not so sure there's another one of these in our immediate future. I'm exhausted! But he sure is worth it, and doesn't he look cute in his new REI pants courtesy of Grandma Perdita and Grampa Bill???

edible trains?

Check out this really neat train I got for Christmas!
Hmm...I wonder if it's edible?

Only one way to find out....

not having much luck...
but that doesn't stop me from trying!

So what am I supposed to do with this thing if I can't eat it??

first steps and a boo-boo

See that bruise under my eye?
This is the result of a collision with the fridge.

Look, I'm standing up!
Yesterday I took FOUR steps all by myself!
Mommy and I practiced all day
and then when Daddy came home
I showed off my new skills...
it's just a matter of days now
before I'm walking all over the place!

I'm already climbing on EVERYTHING!!!

Christmas Cont'd.

I love my "rocking jaffy!"
See how happy it makes me?
Oh, that's my painting in the background,
mommy thinks there is Art in my future.

Mommy says I look "dapper" in this ensemble.
It was a gift from my grammy and grampy M.

I am really into my walking these days,
though I can't quite do it on my own yet...
(mommy says I took two steps by myself today
and daddy was there to see them!)
I'll walk holding on to anything!
And since I got this nifty push wagon
from my Aunt Alicia and Uncle Evan,
I'm pushin' this baby everywhere!
Lookout!

Thankfully it has a bumper!
I have a tendency to bump into things...

Here I am all bundled up for a walk
in Daddy's new jogging stroller.
It was COLD out there today,
so mommy put a lot of clothes on me.
I was warm, but I just don't know about this hat....

Let me get a closer look...this one says...

"ba"

If I like something I give it a "smushy".
I really like my ball.

You can see I have a natural talent with it.
Perhaps basketball is in my future?
I am almost 33 inches tall already...

If you tell me to go get the ball,
I know exactly what you mean and I'll go get it.
Usually I crawl to it (very, very fast)
and get very excited when I get there.

This is me saying "ball", but really it sounds like "ba".
We can conclude that "ba" is my first word- well, not counting "ma, mom, and da"....

In case your're wondering, we go to the park A LOT. Lately the HUD has been able to explore more than just the swing, and it's really fun to watch him discover new things. It's also great for him to be around the other kids at the park. It's kinda funny, but for some reason the older kiddos at the park seem to take a liking to the HUD and want to play with him. Hud doesn't really know what to do with them yet, but he's learning. I just can't believe how fast my little boy is growing up!!

update

Just home from the doctor visit...poor Hudson had a rough time and was not a happy camper at all. Perhaps it was the total lack of sleep last night, combined with the fact that his appointment was at his usual naptime, then throw in the fact that he's sick and he's got some guy pokin' around on him while he sits there in his diaper only in the exam room. Talk about a bad start to the day...well, he is sick, but there's nothing they can do for him. He'll be taking tylenol, benadryl and mucinex for the next few days and we'll see how that goes.
As for the one year statistics you've all been waiting for- here they are...(drum-roll please).

Length- 32 3/4 inches, >95% for his age, so, in other words- he's off the charts again!
Weight- 27 pounds, 13 oz, >95% for his age, also off the charts again!

The doctor says he's looking good. We're going to go back next week for some routine bloodwork and a few vaccines, but other than that all went well at his check-up- with the exception of the aforementioned incidences...feel better little love-bug!

heading to the doctor

Well, it's official..the Hud is sick. As I mentioned, I've been sick over the last week and a half (with no end in sight it appears). I thought that Hud had given it to me since he'd been coughing for a week or so, even though he appeared to feel fine. Then yesterday he seemed worse, and he was running a fever. Last night was rough- to say the least. He was up every hour or so and I had to go in and rock with him several times in the night just to get him comfortable. Tylenol seemed to help bring his fever down, and he finally settled in early this morning and slept for about 2 1/2 hours...Conveniently this morning we have our 1 year visit scheduled at Hud's pediatrician...so we're off to see how he's feeling and how he's doing at the 1 year mark. I'll update you all later after our visit with the Dr.
